Like the miniskirt, hot-pants marked the history of fashion. The first to make them popular was Alice Marble, the American tennis champion, who, in the 1930s, started showing them off on the playing field. It will be in the 1940s and, above all, the ’50s, thanks to the Burlesque pin ups, that the pants will shorten, becoming feminine and sensual, high-waisted and equipped with buttons.
At the basis of youth subcultural phenomena we can identify a general trend: protest. At the origin of youthful anger and the violent generational clash lies the contestation of the bourgeois capitalist system. In particular, the post-war generation accused society of flattening man, de-qualifying the intellectual and commodifying everything, even art and thought. Mods derives from modernists, or fans of modern jazz, who in the early fifties had developed a style in dressing sober, rarely gaudy and elegant down to the last detail.
Although the word has come back strongly in popularity in recent years, the origin of the term dates back to the 1940s, when jazz and bebop went crazy in America. A lifestyle made of independent music labels, vintage clothes and above all, well groomed beards and mustaches: Hipster fashion has changed the look of men, with cuffed jeans and shirts with carefully rolled sleeves and big-rimmed glasses.
We are stocked to announce our feature in the American Tattoo Magazine Models INK. We were approached by Michelle at the end of 2019 for the new year issue of the magazine. In this issue we share a little insight into how TDP was born and the journey of the past year. We also had the chance to feature some of the amazing photographers and tattooed models we have worked with so far. Huge thank you to Models INK Mag for reaching out and taking the time to create this article.
A deck of cards and especially the Suicide King od Hearts is full of mysteries and puzzles. One of the most fascinating is that of “the man without a moustache”, the King of Hearts, above all for the position of the sword, for which he took the name of Suicide King. The King of Hearts was called Charles, probably deriving from Charlemagne. He is the only King without a moustache, in a dynamic position brandishing a sword. The greatest mystery is precisely the sword, which, according to some, is not in a position to commit suicide, but rather in the act of defending itself from an attack, or launching it.
The high end fashion of the Milan Fashion Week brings out a trend to keep an eye on: Pink is Summer 2020 Fashion Trend. Street style confirms this choice, for an all-energy fashion. Finally cleared through the romantic and feminine cliché, the color pink is taken away from gender connotations and becomes ironic, cheeky and rock.
