Today we interviewed UK Tattoo Artist: Emma Sam.
Emma has a unique style of tattooing, mixing Neo Traditional and Black Work to create an amazing result.
Her tattoos are full of textures contrasting with thick bold lines, she can creates epic dinosaurs and reptiles tattoos.
She is currently tattooing at NorthSide Tattooz in Newcastle.

How did you come to define your style?
Originally I was tattooing colour neo-traditional tattoos, I did a few skulls in dot work and loved the style, I tried it with a few other pieces and started adding some heavy black, I kept my thick neo-traditional lines and style of drawing and started experimenting with textures to get the style that I use today.
Which artists inspire you the most?
I feel very inspired by Damian Thür, Bruno Santos, Fredão Olivera and Magdalena Hipner who are all black workers/dot work artists.
Which subjects would you like to tattoo more and why?
I really enjoy tattooing dinosaurs, crocodiles and snakes, I enjoy tattooing scales as I like to build up textures.
Which project would you like to implement(e.g. sleeve with a specific theme etc.)?
I would really like to tattoo more dragons, I also enjoy skeleton kings and creepy themes.
Did you follow an artistic path at school or did you learn everything by yourself?
I learnt everything by myself, seeing the progress in my work makes me want to keep progressing it further.
What are your favourite things about the tattoo community?
My favourite things is the ease of travelling with work, setting your own schedule and being able to be in charge of your own creativity.
What are the biggest setbacks or obstacles that the tattoo industry faces?
The biggest setbacks in the tattoo industry is that there is a lack of consistency in hygiene and tattoo standards. There is no formal qualifications.
What is your favourite Country where you tattooed and why?
I loved tattooing in Singapore and Australia, everyone is super friendly and welcoming and they are both beautiful places to visit.

What are you next travelling places where you’ll be tattooing?
I have no plans at the moment but I would love to go to Germany next.
